National Passport Day

Today is the 3rd annual National Passport Day. The State Department created the day to give people a chance to complete passport-related business on a Saturday as opposed to the regular limited weekday business hours. Given the relatively low percentage of passport holders in the United States, I think this is a great idea. To celebrate National Passport Day, here's some passport related pop culture.

Passports

Passport-collector.com has a wonderful collection of celebrity passports. From Ernest Hemingway and Albert Einstein to Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn, the collection shows that no matter how famous you are, you still need that little rectangular photo to get where you're going.

If you're ever in London and in need of a passport photo, you can check out another gallery of celebrities at Passport Photo Service on Oxford Street. Since 1953 when they opened, the passport service has photographed actors, musicians and athletes such as Ava Gardner, Muhammad Ali, and Kate Winslet. You can read more about it here and also view a list of their celebrity gallery on their website's About Me page.

I'm a big fan of passport stamps (seriously, they are one of my Facebook interests) so I love the above ad for RAM FM, a Palestinian and Israeli radio station. The aim of the station was to bridge the boundaries of these two countries through music and these ads nail that message. Unfortunately the station was shut down in 2008, but you can click through to see additional ads with Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue and Elton John.
